donor's reception Jun 28, 2011, 07:03 Dinners and Events/Jordan, Geneva, London, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi Jun 23, 2011, 08:01 Dinners and Events /USA May 12, 2011, 07:03 Ground breaking ceremony for the new elementary school Around 300 guests attended the ceremony including several ministers. Mr. Hariri cut the ribbon colored IC green and then used a shovel to dig a little of the ground marked for the new elementary school building. He then attended a reception in a specially-erected tent on the football field. Human statues – students painted in white, gold, and silver – stood or sat at the entrance of the tent. Inside, IC’s elementary and secondary choirs mesmerized the audience with renditions of “Hand in Hand” and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. “Hand in Hand,” was especially composed for the occasion. IC officials welcomed Mr. Hariri and the guests. “It was a dream that started IC,” said John Johnson, the president of IC. “Philanthropists and contributors made the dream come true. They did it then and we can do it now.” With an ever growing number of students attending IC, there are “challenges to maintaining our mission of meeting the needs of our students and parents and preparing our graduates for success in whatever path they choose in later life,” said William Turner, the chairman of the Board of Trustees. Hariri said that construction and education were two subjects close to his heart. “I am proud to be putting the cornerstone for an educational institution that is likely to graduate leading figures in all fields in Lebanon and abroad,” he said, highlighting the role that IC has played in educating generations of Lebanese students. He was presented with a gold-plated trowel to commemorate the event. The highlight of the evening came when Mr. Hariri made his way to the children of the choir to greet and hug them. The much needed new elementary school building will boast state of the art facilities and will house up to 750 students. Construction is projected to end in 2012. Click here for the speeches of:
