February 13 Outreach Workshops
Feb 18, 2010, 03:28
The Educational Resource Center once again gathered teachers from public and private schools around Lebanon to participate in a day of learning and idea exchange. One hundred and twenty-eight participants from 62 schools gathered at the Ras Beirut campus on February 13 to attend one of 9 different Outreach workshops. It proved to be an interesting day for both presenters and participants alike.
Mrs. Samia Boulad introduced puppets and how they can facilitate the development of communication skills. Mrs. Rana Anouti introduced maths in action in her workshop of the same title. Participants in Miss Lama Khayr’s workshop looked at how to develop a brain-compatible classroom environment for student achievement. Mr. Ahmad Hafez and participants discussed how to manage errors in the language classroom during his workshop entitled “La gestion de l’erreur en classe de langue.” Science teachers and Mr. Nizar Al Mehtar looked at understanding concepts in the chemistry class. Miss Lina Mouchantaf showed how to help students with various learning styles in her workshop on differentiated instruction. Mrs. Rima Tamim worked with participants and explored the teaching concepts from listening to writing in Arabic. Two workshops, one conducted by Mrs. Nayla Abu Fadil in English and one conducted by Mr. Hamdi Houalla in Arabic, dealt with the concepts of choosing and using appropriate literature in the classroom. Mr. Houalla’s workshop was the second in a series of three workshops designed to help learners choose, read and enjoy novels, whether in the classroom or reading for pleasure, no matter what the language. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to explore new concepts and exchange ideas with colleagues from different schools. “L’échange des expériences entre plusieurs enseignantes venant d’écoles différentes, est enrichissant. Je retourne en classe avec beaucoup de stratégies et d’idées nouvelles.”
