“The Role of PE in the PYP”: An international workshop

On June 28, 29 and 30, IC hosted an international event in cooperation with the International Baccalaureate. The workshop entitled “The Role of PE in the PYP” was organized by the Educational Resources Center and presented by two IB trainers: Mr. Simon Millward, Whole School Physical Education Coordinator at the New International School of Thailand and Mrs. Ghada Maalouf, Ras Beirut Preschool Director. The 25 participants came from different schools in Lebanon and from other countries such as KSA, Nigeria, Kenya, Syria, Serbia, Turkey, and the UAE, along with 11 teachers from IC.
Together, they collaborated to explore PE from different perspectives and inquired into its connection to other areas of the curriculum. As with all PYP and PE workshops, the facilitators engaged the participants in various hands on and physical activities; however, the most important part of the activities included reflections as well as essential planning sessions.
“It’s so enriching and beneficial to sit with colleagues from different schools and explore PE. I have learned a lot and will go back to my school with many ideas and good practices to share,” commented one participant.
