PRIX LITTERAIRE
Le mardi 5 Janvier 2010, 25 élèves de 2nde Bac Français ont participé au premier débat du Prix Littéraire des Lycéens du Liban. Ce débat s'est tenu dans l'une des salles de classe du bâtiment Rockfeller. Plusieurs groupes se sont formés, chaque groupe débattant d'un des romans sélectionnés.
Une ambiance agréable a permis aux élèves de partager leurs émotions de lecture. L'un des groupes a même émis l'opinion suivante : " Notre discussion portant sur le livre PARIS - BREST s'est très bien déroulée. L'histoire nous a paru très intéressante et intrigante. Nous avons partagé nos impressions et étalé nos interrogations personnelles.
L'histoire de ce jeune homme reconnecté avec son passé, retourné sur les traces de sa vie quelques années auparavant, est très agréable.En somme, c'est un roman très apprécié".

Beirut, the International Book Capital 2009-10
In order to revive the tradition of the “moving theater”, students from grade 5/CM2 Ras Beirut participated in an Arabic play organized by Dar Samer under the auspices of the Ministry of Education. The students presented the play "Al-Thawr wal Himar" at Unesco and Biel under the supervision of the director Mr. Hussam Sabbah and their Arabic teachers Mrs. Fatmeh Sheikho and Mrs. Jinane Masri.
The play dealt with the theme of fairness and cooperation as represented by barnyard animals.

L’école élémentaire s’élance dans la pensée visible

Durant la dernière réunion de l’équipe éducative à l’École Élémentaire de Ras Beyrouth, nous avons vu le film de Kseniya Simonova, "l’animatrice de sable" qui, à l’aide de ses doigts, dessine des histoires sur le sable qu’elle efface et redessine au gré de ses envies. Sur la vidéo, elle parle de la seconde guerre mondiale, et dessine avec une facilité déconcertante l’horrible, l’impensable… A travers ce film, Mlle Julia Kozak a pu nous emmener à conclure que «Penser», qui est une action quasiment invisible, peut être bien perceptible! Généralement, la réflexion se passe sous le capot, dans le merveilleux moteur de notre esprit-cerveau. Rendre visible, c'est découvrir, dans le sens de dévoiler; c'est faire apparaître ce qui n'apparait pas. Durant cet atelier qui a mis en pratique des outils conceptuels générant la compréhension active des enseignants, plusieurs outils ont été présentés (...)

A New Set of Workshops for IT
The Educational Resources Center is sponsoring a new set of workshops this year, the Educational Technology Training Program. Coordinated and presented by Dr. Mahmud Shihab, the program provides 12 sessions throughout the year that offer training on skills and strategies needed for integrating and managing technology in the 21st century classroom. Three of the sessions, attended by participants from public and private schools as well as teachers and administrators from IC have taken place. During the sessions, Dr. Shihab helped participants create blogs, wikis, and podcasts for their classes, learn how to create and edit graphics, audio and video files and then embed them in multimedia projects and electronic portfolios. In the last session, participants explored modern teaching methodologies using educational software, interactive hardware and online resources. It is evident from their comments that participants were enjoying the sessions and learning a lot. “Interesting how you are flexible in addressing everyone’s needs,” commented one participant. (...)

2009 – 2010 ECE Workshops Going Strong
November and December were busy months for presenters and teachers attending the Early Childhood Education workshops this year. The workshop series, coordinated by Mrs. Fatmeh Kammoun, offers private and public school teachers workshops that target the Preschool and Lower Elementary levels. The workshops are offered by Doha Berjawi, Fatmeh Kammoun, Lama Khayr, and Lina Mouchantaf.
“It was a very benefiting experience for me; hopefully I will attend more workshops which are motivating,” commented one participant. Fatmeh and the other presenters of this workshop series are working hard to make this participant’s hope come true. (...)
