Flowchart

I- Targeted Exploration of the Web & Collection of Resources

1- Topic Hotlist
A "Topic Hotlist" is a collection of sites that you find most useful / interesting / peculiar on your topic. Doing this will save your learners hours of aimless surfing.

Example:
http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/China/hotlist.html

2- Multimedia Scrap Book
Essentially a multimedia hotlist, the "Multimedia Scrapbook" focuses on providing links to a variety of media and content types (photographs, maps, stories, facts, quotations, sound clips, videos, virtual reality tours, etc.).

Example: http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/China/scrapbook.html

II- Finding Answers, Connecting Information, and Solving Problems

3- Treasure Hunt
A "Treasure Hunt" is similar to a topic hotlist in that it contains teacher created questions and websites that define the scope or parameters of the topic being studies in the classroom. Students are supposed to find the answers for these questions based on the websites provided by the teacher.

Example: Hunt for Dinosaurs http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/fil/pages/huntdinosaurpo2.html

Example: http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/BHM/bh_hunt_quiz.html

4- Subject Sampler
A "Subject Sampler" presents to the learner a smaller number of intriguing (pros & cons, for and against) Web sites organized around a main topic. Students are asked about their perspectives on topics, personal interpretations, comparisons to experiences they have had.

Example: http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/China/sampler.html

5- Webquest
A "WebQuest" is an inquiry activity that presents student groups with a challenging task, provides access to an abundance of usually online resources and scaffolds the learning process to prompt higher order thinking. The products of WebQuests are usually then put out to the world for some real feedback.
